A Saudi toddler who was brutally attacked by an Ethiopian domestic worker died of her injuries on Sunday, Akhbaar 24 reported.

The attack took place last weekend in the kingdom's Al-Kharj Governorate and left 13-month-old Taraf unconscious in a laundry basket.

Speaking to local news outlets after the incident occurred, the victim's father, Sultan al-Hanzi, shared the attack's chilling details.

"My wife called me while I was at work and told me she couldn't find our daughter in the house. We looked for her everywhere and soon after, found her unconscious in a laundry basket on the roof," he said.

At the time, the child was rushed to the King Khalid hospital in al-Kharj and then transferred to the King Saud Medical City as her case required more critical treatment.

She had reportedly suffered several blows to the head during the assault and had strangulation marks on her neck.

The toddler's parents are distraught and refusing to bury their child

Speaking to Al Arabiya in the wake of his daughter's tragic death, Sultan Al-Hanzi said he would not bury his daughter until justice prevails in the case.

The murder will now be investigated further by Saudi authorities who are in close contact with the Ethiopian embassy in the kingdom and will now transfer the case to prosecution.

Taraf's death sparked outrage on Saudi Twitter

The incident left many speechless

"There's no strength or power but in God almighty."

And heartbroken...

"My heart is broken, this is truly painful. This child was so helpless and couldn't even defend herself. May God have mercy on her soul. I can't even handle this news."

"This is such sad news, it's just so heartbreaking. What's this young innocent girl's fault?"

Many are now calling on authorities to take strict action

"They should immediately take action against the domestic worker. We hear crimes committed by helpers but we never hear or see them held accountable for their actions."

Rest in peace baby Taraf...

"May God have mercy on her soul and may she rest in heaven."
