A Saudi toddler was left in critical condition after being strangled by an Ethiopian domestic worker who works with her family, Al Mowaten news site reported

The incident took place over the weekend in the kingdom's al-Kharj governorate and left 13-month old Taraf unconscious in a laundry basket.

Speaking to local news outlets, the victim's father, Sultan al-Hanzi, shared the attack's chilling details.

"My wife called me while I was at work and told me she couldn't find our daughter in the house. We looked for her everywhere and soon after, found her unconscious in a laundry basket on the roof," he said.

"She had been placed in there head down and covered in blankets," he added.

The toddler was transferred for treatment shortly after

After being rushed to the King Khalid hospital in al-Kharj, Taraf was then transferred to the King Saud Medical City as her case required more critical treatment.

She had reportedly suffered several blows to the head during the assault and had strangulation marks on her neck.

According to Al Arabiya, late on Sunday, doctors told the toddler's parents that she was brain dead.

The domestic worker is now in police custody and will be investigated further in the case.
