Bizarre airline stories are nothing new. Remember that time when a Dubai flight was forced to land because one passenger couldn't stop farting?

However, this time, it was a brawl between two pilots - during an international flight with 157 passengers on board - that took the spotlight.

The two Iraqi Airways pilots - on a flight from Iran to Iraq - reportedly got into a heated argument over a food tray.

The argument soon turned into a physical brawl in the cockpit at 37,000 feet (11,277 meters) mid-air, leading to an open investigation into the incident.

"The transport ministry has opened an investigation with the two pilots who argued with each other in-flight," Iraqi Airways said in a statement.

"Conversation with the pilot became heated because he forbade an air hostess from bringing me a meal tray, under the pretext that I hadn't asked him for authorization," the co-pilot wrote in a letter, according to The Independent.

After the pilot took his own meal, he insulted the co-pilot and then hit him. A security agent arrived to calm things down, but the fight continued after landing. "The pilot again hit and insulted" his colleague, according to media reports.

Iraq's Ministry of Transportation committee said that Captain Ali Ahmed Yaqub will retire and Captain Ali Ahmed Salih will be dismissed, according to Al Araby.
