A Kuwaiti official has drawn praise and admiration after standing up for Palestinians and calling out Israel's crimes at an international conference on Wednesday.
Speaker of Kuwait’s National Assembly, Marzouq Al-Ghanim, gave an explosive speech at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference, which was held in Russia.
In it, Al-Ghanim referred to the Israeli delegation as "occupiers, child killers" and asked it to leave the conference, prompting a round of heavy applause.
"Get out of the hall right now if you have an atom of dignity"
"The clear response to the lies of the Israeli Knesset. In the face of their horrors, it was necessary to have a firm stance."
Speaking at the IPU, an international organization that brings together sovereign states for negotiations, Al-Ghanim blasted the Israeli delegation for its claims concerning Palestinian lawmakers detained in Israeli prisons on alleged terrorism charges.
In a video that quickly went viral on social media, Al-Ghanim can be seen addressing the Israeli delegation, saying that its spokesperson "represents the most dangerous form of terrorism: state terrorism."
He went on to add, "The saying ‘if you have no shame, do as you please’ applies to the comments made by this rapist (Israeli) parliament."
Amidst heavy applause, he suggested that the delegation leave the conference hall.
"You should pack your bags and get out of the hall after you saw the reactions of the world’s honorable parliaments.
Get out of the hall right now if you have an atom of dignity, you occupier, child killers."
In response to his fiery statements, members of the Israeli delegation stood up and left the hall.
Al-Ghanim's statements took the internet by storm, with his name making it to the top trends on Twitter worldwide.
Here is a round-up of the social media reactions:
People are beyond proud
Many are thanking him for exposing Israel's inhumanity
Naturally, clapping emojis are in order
"Someone finally said it!"
Here's hoping other politicians follow suit
Not the first time Al-Ghanim calls out Israeli crimes
This wouldn't be the first time Al-Ghanim lashes out on Israel at the IPU.
According to Erem News, the Kuwaiti parliamentarian demanded that the Israeli Knesset be expelled from the union back in 2015.
"It is the least we can do in response to Israel's vanity and crimes that are against humanity and the law," he reportedly said at the time.
