Over the weekend, health authorities in Saudi Arabia's Jazan governorate have launched an investigation into the case of a woman who gave birth in a car after being misdiagnosed by three different hospitals.

According to Akhbaar 24, the woman had been turned away from one hospital after the other, with medical staff telling her she wasn't due to give birth yet. However, on their way to a fourth hospital, the woman delivered her child.

After arriving at a nearby medical center, a team of doctors managed to save the newborn's life and tend to his mother.

A video of the newborn arriving to hospital has since sparked outrage...

Soon after the woman's ordeal, a video capturing the moment her newborn arrived at a local hospital in Jazan went viral on Saudi Twitter.

The footage angered hundreds who called on authorities to take immediate action against the hospitals who refused to admit the woman after misdiagnosing her.

People were horrified at the news...

"This news is terrifying."

"If they couldn't even diagnose this, how are they going to diagnose other illnesses?"

Many just couldn't even...

"Since when did labor need a diagnosis!!"

"This isn't the first time this happens in a Jazan hospital"

Others shared similar personal stories...

"This isn't surprising and it's not the first time it happens. It's known that pregnant women go around several hospitals to find one willing to provide them a bed here. I don't know who's responsible for all that's happening."

"I swear this is just ridiculous"

"It's as if we're not living in the 21st century"

Tweeps thought an investigation into the case isn't enough...

"We always hear 'they launched an investigation', but never learn the results.  Is this a way in which they sedate public opinion?"

And called on authorities to take strict action...

"Everyone involved must be held accountable and punished, not just warned or asked to issue an apology. We're talking about people's lives here."
