Twitter users question how EgyptAir flight can disappear in Mediterranean

EgyptAir flight MS804 from Paris to Cairo disappeared from radar with 56 people on board early Thursday morning

After the disappearance of EgyptAir flight MS804 from Paris to Cairo early Thursday morning, Greek and French officials have announced that the plane has crashed .

In the tragic incident, EgyptAir confirmed via Twitter that there were 56 passengers on board along with 10 cabin crew members.

People have turned to Twitter in bewilderment at how it's possible for a plane to disappear in the Mediterranean without leaving a trace:

Earlier this year, an EgyptAir flight was hijacked as it was heading from Alexandria to Cairo with 81 passengers on board. It was redirected to Cyprus, and no passengers or crew were harmed.
