On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump met with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss a number of issues including regional tensions, future investments, and military deals between the two countries.

However, it wasn't the topics of discussion that caught the attention of the internet. Rather, it was the fact that not one woman took part in the 20-plus person meeting that caused an uproar on Twitter.

Soon after, a photo of the meeting, in which a number of men can be seen occupying seats at the roundtable, began making the rounds online.

Vice President Mike Pence and Trump's senior advisor Jared Kushner were also among those attending on the American side.

On the other side, an all-male Saudi delegation joined the meeting for the second year in a row, according to The New York Times.

Kenneth Roth, executive director at Human Rights Watch, was among the first to point it out

"This White House meeting sends the wrong message to girls across the globe"

Egyptian feminist Mona Eltahawy was quick to make a point ...

Only female "interpreters" were present in the room

"The silencing of woman in this room is deafening"

"Without the womb none of them would be at the table"

"We're back in the 1800s"

"Lack of woman and diversity"

"Depressing"

When the pot calls the kettle black...

Some weren't surprised, but disappointed

Some used the photo to criticize the kingdom's male guardianship system

For years, Saudi Arabia's male guardianship system - which prohibits women from traveling, marrying, and working without the permission of a male guardian, typically the husband, father, or brother - has been seen as a hindrance to women's progress.

However, in 2017 a royal decree from King Salman suggested that the patriarchal system's days are coming to an end.

"A picture is worth a thousand words"

"The relationship is probably the strongest it's ever been," Trump said

On Tuesday, Trump welcomed MBS by emphasizing that the relationship between the two nations is "probably the strongest it's ever been."

"Saudi Arabia is a very wealthy nation, and they're going to give the United States some of that wealth, hopefully, in the form of jobs, in the form of the purchase of the finest military equipment anywhere in the world. There’s nobody even close," Trump added in a statement.

Saudi's crown prince expressed the same sentiments when speaking to Trump.

"We believe the same. We believe we can do all the great things together."
