A man in Dubai has been charged with physical assault after allegedly biting off part of another person's ear.

According to Khaleej Times, Dubai's Court of First Instance announced the ruling this week, after a forensic report revealed the 22-year-old victim sustained a permanent injury following the brawl.

The 28-year-old Pakistani man, who was on a visit visa, bit off the victim's left ear back in June. The incident took place in Naif area.

The accused reportedly had an "agreement to install an advert board for a customer. The latter paid a down payment of 500 dirhams [$136] and was [expected] to pay the rest of the amount once the job was completed."

"The defendant would not believe me later when I told him that the customer did not pay me any cash," the victim said, according to Khaleej Times.

"He thought I was lying and insulted me instead. It made me angry and I found myself hitting him with a shoe on the head and then biting his left arm."

The forensic report - released by the general directorate of criminal evidence and criminology - revealed that the victim had sustained permanent injury to his ear. According to Khaleej Times, he must undergo treatment as part of the recovery process.

A verdict on the case is expected to be announced on October 29.

Not the first time someone bit off another's ear in Dubai

In 2017, a man was jailed in Dubai after physically assaulting his wife's former boss. The accused was sentenced to six months in jail for biting off the man's ear, causing permanent injuries.

"As I took him away from me, my ear was cut and I saw the missing part in the defendant's mouth. People who happened to be around broke the fight and I was taken to hospital after bleeding a lot. I learned later that this woman employee was the defendant's wife," the victim told prosecutors at the time.

The court ordered the deportation of the accused after serving jail time.

Inspired by Mike Tyson?

In June 1997, Mike Tyson bit off Evander Holyfield's ear during the third round of their heavyweight rematch ... which led to his disqualification from the match.

Tyson's boxing license was suspended following the fight, which has been dubbed "The Bite Fight."
