On Tuesday, Kuwait's Ministry of Interior reportedly arrested a Lebanese expat for insulting Kuwaitis during a live stream that went viral in the Gulf state.

Known as budoy_f on Instagram, the man had angrily responded to a follower who insulted his home country and told him he shouldn't be using Kuwaiti dialect in his videos.

"Speaking this language isn't something to be proud of. The Gulf needs decades to advance, their rhetoric is like my shoe," he said.

At the time, the man's statements sparked furious reactions from Kuwaitis and Khaleejis on social media, with many calling on local authorities to take action against him.

The man's video angered thousands on social media...

It also led him to post a statement in which he claimed his words were misconstrued, adding that he would never intend to insult Kuwaitis or Kuwait because it's the country where he was born and raised.

However, his statement did little to calm the social media storm his comments had created.

The footage also led several lawyers to file complaints against him...

"My colleague Mishal Al Enezi and I submitted a complaint against the expat who insulted the Kuwaiti language and the people of Gulf countries and that's in a bid to stop similar irresponsible behavior from recurring."

News of his arrest has since gone viral on Twitter...

Some thought he deserved to be arrested...

"So rude, he deserves this."

And hailed the Ministry of Interior for taking action...

"Good on the Ministry of Interior."

Some called on authorities to deport the man...

"Deportation... deportation... deportation."

"The plane is available, why jail him?"

Not everyone was for the man's arrest though, a few defended him...

"Poor thing, he responded to a follower who insulted his country so it's just normal that he'd hit back on the same level. May God help him out of this."
