In 2016, Game of Thrones star Lena Headey made international headlines after spending three days with Marwa, a Syrian mother, in a refugee camp in Lesbos, Greece.
Nearly two years later, the 44-year-old actress reunited with Marwa in Germany in collaboration with the global humanitarian NGO International Rescue Committee (IRC).
According to the IRC, the reunion was "incredibly emotional for them both."
"It’s extraordinary to look into your eyes!" Headey told Marwa as they hugged.
Upon meeting, Headey learned that Marwa and her daughters - who now speak German - have finally reunited with Aiman, husband and father.
Headey first met Marwa - who was separated from her husband at the time - in June 2016 on a trip with the IRC and Game of Thrones >co-stars Liam Cunningham and Maisie Williams.
Marwa, her husband, and daughters now reside in Germany, where over 1.5 million refugees have sought asylum in the past two years.
In 2016, Game of Thrones' stars >called on fans to support Syrian refugees in a video campaign in collaboration with the IRC and HBO.
The video aimed to raise emergency funds to rescue the millions of people who have been affected by war and natural disasters.
