Footage of a man being slapped right in the middle of Mecca's Great Mosque sent Saudi tweeps into a meltdown earlier this week.

In the video, a man can be seen suddenly attacking a pilgrim walking past him. The reasons behind the assault have yet to be confirmed but hundreds are now speculating the matter on social media.

Many are also angered by the incident, especially given the fact that it took place in the holy site.

The short clip infuriated Saudi tweeps

Before it went viral on Twitter, the person who shot the video uploaded it on Snapchat, captioning his post:

"A legendary clip. I was filming and suddenly this happens."

Social media users then spotted the post and shared it on Twitter, where it sparked fury.

Many are speculating what might've led to the slap

"Either he's sick or upset and lashing out at this poor guy."

"I think it's because he was filming"

Maybe it's because the man was smoking?

"Guys, this man was pulling out a cigarette, he wanted to smoke, look at it in his hand."

Speculations were endless

"It's clear that it's his father and he probably beat him because he was late to join the family in their walk inside. Note that when the man was slapped he didn't look confused."

"Even if it's his father, he has no right to humiliate him in public"

Regardless of the reason, people are having none of it

"If you don't have any respect for yourself at least respect the sanctity of the place you're in!"

And everyone is now asking the same question

"Whose the third person who filmed this?"

Amid the controversy, a man claiming to be the one who appeared in the video tweeted about the incident

As the video continues to make the rounds on Saudi Twitter, a tweep named Semo Hindi claimed to be the person who appeared in the viral footage.

In a now-deleted tweet, Hindi shared alleged details of the incident, saying he was slapped by his own father after his family lost track of him in the holy site.

However, since the tweep later deleted his post, many are now speculating that his version of the story is made up.

It remains unconfirmed if the tweep is, in fact, the person who appeared in the video.
