Egyptian national Yara Alaa El Din has earned total hero-status after rescuing an abducted young man in a car chase through Cairo.

Alaa El Din was driving her family back home in the suburban Nasr City when she heard cries for help coming from a car with a driver whose face was masked.

In response, Alaa El Din chased the car across the city and successfully saved the victim.

A viral video that has garnered some 2.5 million views on Facebook captures Alaa El Din's intense efforts to hunt down the abductors and rescue the man.

On Monday, Alaa El Din posted the video of the car chase, which was documented by a family member on a mobile camera, along with her account of the incident.

"I would never have imagined going through something like this," she wrote on Facebook.

She explained she was driving her parents, son, and sister when she noticed the sketchy vehicle and decided to follow it.

She began honking, while her sister repeatedly yelled "thief" from the top of her lungs, to catch people's attention and urge them to help.

"A guy driving a motorcycle also followed the car, but they crushed him," she said, adding that he thankfully made it out safely.

After several people joined in on the rescue, the perpetrators threw the man out of the car and sped off.

While Alaa El Din parked to check up on the victim, other vehicles continued to chase down the abductors and deliver them to authorities.

Alaa El Din noted that the victim, a Syrian man in his twenties, was drugged up and beaten up violently.

"Had we not followed him, I would have lost sleep over it for the rest of my life," she wrote.

Egypt Independent reports that according to the Head of Nasr City Police station Wael Ganem, the victim owns a clothing factory.

"They [the perpetrators] were planning to steal the Syrian man's vehicle, mobile phone and set a ransom for his release. They are now under arrest,” he said.

The video has been widely circulated online, with comments praising Alaa El Din pouring in:
