The deterioration of the art scene in the Arab world has taken a deep plunge in the abyss of cheap, commercial content many years ago. One grows numb to the constant waves of sexual imagery, but then a song goes viral in Egypt that shows nothing but a woman’s bust shaking merrily for the camera, interrupted only by a bald guy who miserably fails at rapping.
Named “Seeb Eidy” (Let Go of My Hand) the song – if it is fit to be called a song – was released on YouTube on May 18 by the duo Wael and Menna. The three minutes lack any glimpse of art, let alone creativity. But it seems that the woman’s wobbly full bosom and the other shots up her short dress were good enough to attract 387,257 views in less than four days.
Two days after the video was released, an Egyptian court urged the prime minister to take immediate action on banning pornography websites in Egypt.
Could this be a mere coincidence?
