Life is full of surprises, some good, some not so good ... For many, this will be a good one!
The men who hunted down one of the greatest drug king pins in history are coming to Dubai!
DEA agents who tracked the infamous Pablo Escobar will be coming to speak in the emirate
On October 5 and 6, DEA Agents Javier Pena and Steve Murphy will be presenting their version of Escobar's capture at the Dubai College Auditorium.
Sponsored by 117 Live, the event will share the real-life details behind the saga that inspired the popular Netflix series Narcos and numerous films.
For years, Pena and Murphy tracked Escobar
"This is just such an intriguing story about an individual who has been described as both a villain and a rebel, blamed for spreading serious drug abuse across the globe and heralded as some sort of modern day Robin Hood," CEO of 117Live Thomas Ovesen told Gulf News.
"And this is not a story told by a historian or journalist but by the actual undercover DEA agents who personally fought the fight, camped out in Colombia, trekking through the jungle for years trying to get Escobar and eventually succeeding," he said.
Escobar – "the King of Cocaine" – began his criminal career in the 1970s
The Colombian drug lord is credited with killing thousands of people in his pursuit of power and wealth. He became known as a "narco-terrorist" and eventually was killed in a shootout in 1993, just 16 months after escaping prison.
"We want everyone to know the true story of what actually took place with Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel, and who the true heroes are from that time. At every presentation, we recognize the Colombian National Police (CNP) as the real heroes of this investigation, along with the thousands of innocent people who were senselessly killed because of one man’s overwhelming greed and ego," Pena and Murphy have said about their talk, which they have presented to rave reviews around the world.
Of course, just as "everyone has a price" ... so does this event
