The Council on American-Islamic Relations ( CAIR ) has revealed that Islamophobic groups had access to more than $200 million in total revenue between 2008 and 2013, in a report published in collaboration with the Center for Race and Gender at University of California, Berkeley.

Titled "Confronting Fear," the report identifies 74 groups that have either funded or fostered the rise of fear and hatred towards Muslims in the United States.

"It is an entire industry of itself. There are people making millions of dollars per year from promoting Islamophobia. They often present themselves as experts on Islamic affairs when they are not," Wilfredo Amr Ruiz, a spokesperson for CAIR, told Al Jazeera .

Some of the key findings of the report reveal that there has been a rise in Islamophobia in the United States alongside a rise in hate crimes and anti-Islamic legislation.

However, to date, none of these laws have invoked legal proceedings. In 2015, 31 bills designed to vilify Islamic religious practices were introduced in the legislatures of 17 states.

At least two states, Florida and Tennessee, have passed laws revising the way school textbooks are approved as a direct result of anti-Islam campaigns

This number is higher than was ever reported in a single year since CAIR started tracking the reports in 2009.

The rise of Islamophobia has taken a toll on the lives of Muslims, not just in America, but all around the world. These organizations have been behind the rapid increase in the hate and prejudice towards anyone with a Muslim name or face, because according to them we all kinda look and sound the same.

"They have fueled an environment of distrust among the American public by claiming that Muslims do not belong to the American community and that they could never be loyal citizens," said  Ruiz.

This has also led to numerous incidents whereby innocent people were escorted off airplanes for speaking in their mother tongue or for looking Muslim.

Will it ever come to an end?
