After the International Olympic Committee banned Kuwait from participating in international competitions, the country is now seeking $1 billion in damages.

Kuwait's minister of information and youth, Sheikh Salman al-Hmoud al-Sabah confirmed that the nation will be taking the IOC to the Swiss courts for being "unfair" towards the nation's athletic capabilities.

"It is totally unacceptable that Kuwait is treated in this unfair way and is barred from international sports activities without conducting an appropriate investigation," Sabah said during a banquet Wednesday night, according to Reuters .

Back in October, FIFA and the IOC banned Kuwait, alleging government interference in the country's football associations and its Olympic movement, respectively.

The ban prevents Kuwaiti athletes from participating in the Olympic Games under the nation's flag. However, the athletes can still participate if they choose to compete under the generic Olympic flag. The ban has caused controversy as it is unlikely to be lifted, and has barred the nation's football clubs from participating in international matches, including qualifying matches for the World Cup.
