From Paris to Beirut, cyclist rides to raise funds for Lebanese NGOs

With the aim to raise funds for three Lebanese NGOs, cyclist Micky Chebli will bike from Paris to Beirut this June, crossing 4,000 km.

Have you ever thought cycling across continents was possible? Well, this man is working to prove so in celebration of turning 50 this year.

With the aim to raise funds for three Lebanese NGOs, cyclist Micky Chebli will bike from Paris to Beirut this June, crossing 4,000 km as part of his project, Cyclist of Life .

Aside from raising funds, which is his main goal behind the project, Chebli wants to show Lebanese youth that anything is possible, even cycling between continents.

Chebli has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Zoomaal to raise the $300,000, which will be split among the three Lebanese NGOs.

The NGOs include Les Petits Soleils, MySchoolPulse  and Oum el Nour, all of which are health related NGOs providing medical aid to Lebanese youth suffering from illnesses or addiction.

The funds will be split as follows.

Les Petits Soleils will receive $100,000 to cover 10 hospitalizations with surgery, 1,000 specialized consultations, 1,000 vaccinations, 1,500 X-rays and 500 laboratory explorations.

The next $100,000 will be donated to MySchoolPulse to cover the education of 100 children undergoing treatment for life-threatening diseases across six hospitals. This money will also cover one-on-one tutoring, computer courses and art therapy

Finally, $100,000 will be donated to Oum el Nour to cover one year of in-patient treatment and social reinsertion for 10 young men and women and also design prevention and social awareness programs.

“My Pain is temporarily, saving a child is forever,” Chebli says on the crowdfunding page .

On May 26, Chebli started his adventure from Paris. He will be going through Italy, Greece, Turkey and finally Beirut.

All costs and expenses of the trip including travel expenses and equipment will be incurred by Chebli himself.
