Emirati photographer Marwan Al Ali's series inspired by Islamic architecture and mosques across the UAE is currently on display in Sharjah.
Entitled Islamic Motifs, the exhibition features 65 photographs of the intricate exterior designs adorning domes and minarets, interior aesthetics and the calligraphy used to decorate the halls and walls of mosques.
Al Ali is an award-winning photographer and a founding member of the Emirates Geographic Society. His work has been shown at numerous local and international exhibitions.
“This is a chance for Sharjah residents and visitors to experience the work of a young, up-and-coming Emirati photographer," Manal Ataya, director general of Sharjah Museums Department, said in a statement.
“Supporting local artistic talent by providing a platform to showcase their work is something we believe very strongly in, and this is reflected in our year-round program of exhibitions.”
As well as viewing Al Ali’s photographs, visitors to the Islamic Motifs exhibition will get to see a spiritual manifestation of calligraphy brought to life through cutting-edge 3D technology. Held at the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, the exhibition will continue through Nov. 30.
