Of course, we wish major congrats to Lebanon's newest reigning beauty queen, Valerie Abou Chacra. In honor of her victory last night, we thought we'd highlight some moments from the history of Lebanese beauty pageants to show the proud moments, the occasional controversy and the downright bizarre.

1. In 1952, Leila Saroufim was crowned as the first Miss Lebanon.

2. Hania Baydoun became the first Lebanese representative to compete at the Miss Universe pageant in 1955.

3. Georgina Rizk became the first and only Lebanese woman to win Miss Universe in 1971.

4. Ghada al-Turk was formally stripped of her Miss Lebanon title in 1993 for posing for a photo with Miss Israel.

5. Mister Lebanon launched in 1995, crowning Hadi El Esta.

6. Assaad Tarabay was the 1st runner up in the Mister World competition in 2003.

7. In 2010, Rima Fakih – who was born in Lebanon before immigrating to the United States with her family – was crowned Miss USA.

8. A controversy arose after Miss Lebanon Saly Greige appeared in a viral selfie with Miss Israel at Miss Universe 2015. However, she kept her title.

9. In 2015, a Mister Lebanon contestant suggested the country's trash crisis could be solved if people simply kept all their garbage inside the house
