Egypt is grieving the loss of esteemed actor Ibrahim Yousri who died Monday at the age of 65. Yousri was admitted to the intensive care unit of Misr International Hospital in Giza after his health condition deteriorated due to kidney problems.
A few hours before the artist's death, his son Mohamed, a promising rising actor, posted a picture of his father on Facebook with a caption that says: "All my life, I tried never to ask anything of anyone. But today is April 20, my father's birthday. He's my support in this life, and he's been in the ICU for a few days. Please pray for him."
With over 126 works to his name, varying between television drama, silver screen and theater, Yousri was best-known for his television work. His claim to fame? A mastery of complex characters and a strong sense of diligence in work.
Some of his popular roles were in Layali El-Helmyia (from 1987 -1995), Al-Mal Wal Al-Banon (1993-1995), El-Gamaa (2010) and films such as Al-Irhaby (1993), Morgan Ahmed Morgan (2007) and Lahazat Anousa (2008).
Yousri, known for his calmness and steady tone, was a man of solid opinions in life and, more recently, politics.
In remembrance of this great artist, his roles shall always stand witness to his brilliance, and so will interviews that reflected not only how skilled an actor he was, but also what a humble human being.
