Dubai snuffs out cigarette sales for 'World No Tobacco Day'

Dubai Municipality alongside Dubai-based fuel retailer Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) have announced a 24-hour ban on the sale of cigarettes.

May 31 marks World No Tobacco Day and of course Dubai is doing more than just observing the day.

Enoc has banned the sale across its Enoc and Eppco service stations across the UAE.

WNTD is an initiative started by the World Health Organization to raise awareness on the health risks associated with tobacco use.

In 2016, the WHO is calling on countries to get ready for plain (standardized) packaging of tobacco products, which has long been used as a form of advertising to smokers.
