Back in 1959, a very young Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid accompanied his father on a visit to see Egypt's then-President Gamal Abdel Nasser.
A video of the historic meeting has resurfaced on social media, showing Sheikh Mohammed, who would have turned 10 that year, and his father, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed in Cairo.
From 1912 to 1990, Sheikh Rashid ruled Dubai. He also served as the prime minister and vice-president of the UAE from 1971 until his death. Sheikh Mohammed has followed in his father's footsteps, leading Dubai and his nation.
In the video, President Nasser can be seen patting Sheikh Mohammed gently on the shoulder. The young future ruler smiles warmly in return. Nasser later presents Sheikh Mohammed with a gift.
The video describes the trip as a visit to the United Arab Republic (UAR)
In 1959, Egypt and Syria were united as the UAR. However, this union was short-lived, only lasting from 1958 to 1961. Syria pulled out of the alliance after a coup d'état.
Nasser has gone down in history as an iconic and respected leader. He transformed Egypt from a monarchy into a republic, promoting a pan-Arab ideology that granted him wide support throughout the Arab world.
After the video drew attention online, Sheikh Mohammed shared a screenshot via his personal Instagram.
