Jamie Harron

Jamie Harron - a tourist from Scotland - has been sentenced to three months in jail for drunkenly touching a man at a bar in Dubai.

The 27-year-old was arrested after a German man of Jordanian descent had filed a complained that he touched him at the Rock Bottom Cafe in Dubai's Barsha Heights in July.

The victim told Dubai Criminal Court that when he questioned Harron about touching his behind, the accused flashed his middle finger at him.

“I didn't say anything nor did I scream or insult him. I just called [the] police, who arrested him,” said the 49-year-old man identified as Emad Tabaza.

Earlier this month, Harron denied a charge of sexual assault.

Following widespread international condemnation, Tabaza had dropped the charges, but Dubai prosecutors still went ahead with the case.

At the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours, Harron had denied charges of consuming alcohol without a license and committing a publicly indecent act by flagging his middle finger.

The case has obtained international media coverage and reports say Harron was on a two-day stopover in Dubai on his way back to Afghanistan, where he worked as an electrician.

Harron was publicly identified by his lawyers and spoke out to claim that he was walking through a crowded bar and accidentally touched the man as he tried to avoid spilling a drink.

Tabaza, the managing director of Neuman & Esser, has claimed that he has received death threats since the incident.

Since the ordeal began, Harron has lost his job and claims to have spent more than $39,000 (AED143,000) in legal fees and expenses.

He was not in court for his verdict but can appeal within two weeks.

Harron will be deported after serving his sentence.
