People in the UK are experiencing a hummus shortage ... after several supermarket chains were forced to recall the products from their shelves due to "taste issues."

Three supermarket chains - Sainsbury's, Marks & Spencer and Tesco - recently recalled their pre-packaged hummus after several customers complained about the dip having a "metallic" taste to it.

Turns out, it was a production issue from the hummus supplier.

"We’ve temporarily removed a number of hummus lines from sales due to a production issue at our supplier," a spokesperson from Sainsbury's told The Independent

Considering Britain >consumes around 12,000 tons of hummus a year, people in the UK are having a total meltdown.

First things first: realizing that no one knows the true spelling of "houmous"

A spelling war ensued

Then came the stages of *hummus grief*

Why weren't we given a warning? Why is life so unfair? WHY?

The real Apocalypse ... some believe

The definition of "catastrophe"

A whole new level of emotional distress that hummus can't fix ... cuz there is no hummus

THE STRUGGLE IS REAL!!!

This one has taken the crisis personally ... a little TOO personally

Wait ... what do we dip our carrots in now? What is this? How will I live? Goodbye cruel world.

Some have come up with their own solutions ... because life's gotta go on

I mean ... really, a hummus crisis?

Well, Britian is dubbed "the hummus capital of Europe" ... and we kind of understand why

The Levantine dip made from cooked, mashed chickpeas is believed to have been first introduced to the country in the late 1980s when Waitrose became the first British supermarket to stock hummus.

Since then, its popularity has grown tremendously.

According to the BBC, two in five households are believed to have hummus in their fridge.
