American pop singer Katy Perry celebrated her 35th birthday with an epic 10-day trip to Egypt; one that was kept pretty much under the wraps until last week.
Perry reportedly flew a group of over 60 friends and family members to the country to mark the day on Oct. 25. Fiancé British actor Orlando Bloom and his mom Sonia Copeland were part of the group as the latter was also celebrating her birthday. Well, it seems the singer is fond of her fiancé's mother, something rare to see in the Arab region.
The big party celebrated Perry's birthday with "dinner at a temple in Edfu" and "riding camels through the desert at night," according to Page Six.
The Teenage Dream singer's best friend, Markus Molinari, posted a photo slideshow of the trip to Instagram, titled "How to build a powerful bond in 10 days." In the post's caption, he revealed that Perry had invited 64 of her friends over to Egypt on the condition that they step out of their comfort zones and "for every meal sit with someone different."
Pretty cool, if you ask us.
It looks like Perry and her party were left enchanted by Egypt's historical landmarks and scenery.
Over the weekend, the star posted several images of her posing by the Pyramids of Giza. Captioning one of her posts, the singer showed off her knowledge of Ancient Egyptian beliefs, writing:
"Ancient Egyptians believed that when you pass on your heart had to be weighed. It had to be lighter than a feather to be qualified for the trip to the afterlife. My mother has called me feather since I was a little girl and I hope after all is said and done my heart is as light as one. This is 35."
In another upload, she posted several photos of her riding camels with fiancé Bloom.
Perry had the time of her life in Egypt
So did her large group of friends
Vacation goals?
Living it up in the land of the Pyramids
As picturesque as it gets
To say the least
But Egypt is no stranger to celebrities
Perry is said to have been obsessed with Egypt since dressing up as Cleopatra for her Dark Horse music video, and had long planned to celebrate her birthday in the country. Back in 2014, she booked a birthday trip to the North African country but later canceled it due to political issues that were taking place there at the time.
The singer isn't alone when it comes to favoring Egypt as a holiday destination, as several other celebs love it all the same. These include Kourtney Kardashian who once said the country is one of her "favorite places ever."
Will Smith has also previously shown love to the land of the Pharaohs along with a host of other celebs who made visits to the country in recent years. Sean Penn, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (when they were still a couple, of course), Tom Hanks, and many more have had their shares of the pyramids.
