Asa Hutchinson, a 21-year-old British woman, might be sent to jail in Dubai because she witnessed an argument between her friends and a man at a local hotel lobby last year, BBC reported.
According to BBC, the incident, which dates back to 2016, went down after Hutchinson's friends took selfies with the 50-year-old man who was sleeping in the hotel lobby.
When he woke up and realized what they were doing, he started punching them and they then fled the scene.
Soon after, the man reported the incident to police and everyone involved was arrested, including the young British woman, who had arrived at the scene after hearing the commotion.
Hutchinson was bailed out shortly after her arrest, but now faces charges of assault, theft, and fraud.
Charges were transferred to Hutchinson
Since the men involved in the attack were visiting Dubai on tourist visas, they managed to fly back home to the UK.
That's when the Swedish man decided to transfer the charges to Hutchinson, who is based in the UAE.
This isn't the first time a British tourist was recently detained in the emirate.
A few weeks back Jamie Harron, a Scottish tourist, was jailed in Dubai for touching a man's hip.
Harron's case was later dropped
Harron was arrested for "public indecency" after placing his hand on a man at the Rock Bottom Cafe to avoid spilling his drink on himself or others, according to his representatives.
Police arrived at the bar approximately 30 minutes after the incident and arrested Harron on charges of alcohol consumption and public indecency.
The 27-year-old electrician was taken to Al Barsha Prison. He was locked up for 5 days and then released on bail with his passport confiscated.
Charges against Harron were eventually dismissed and he was allowed to travel back to Britain.
