A hospital is probably the last place anyone would think they'd get married, but it's exactly where a couple recently held their wedding ceremony in the UAE.
The Bangladeshi/Pakistani couple, Ribat and Sana, flew into the country all the way from Canada after Ribat's father, Shahadat Chowdhury, became gravely ill with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) caused by pneumonia.
The duo, who are based in Toronto, had previously planned a huge July wedding there when Chowdhury had to be hospitalized and ventilated at Dubai's Aster Hospital, Mankhool earlier in June.
Just days after his health started improving, the couple got married right at his bedside on Saturday.
Chowdhury slowly recovered but still couldn't fly to attend his son's wedding...
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Ribat said his father's sudden illness was shocking to the family because the man had always been healthy and never complained of any health issues.
"My mother was panicking and we immediately decided to come back to Dubai," he explained.
After weeks in intensive care, Chowdhury slowly recovered and was weaned off ventilators.
However, doctors still couldn't release him from the hospital and he wasn't given permission to fly in time for Ribat's wedding. This is why the ceremony was moved to his hospital room.
According to the English-language daily, it was the bride who suggested that the religious ceremony is held at the hospital.
"We did not want Ribat's father to miss the wedding so we brought the wedding to him," Sana explained.
While the duo's nikah was held in the hospital, their reception will still take place as planned on July 16 in Toronto.
