A viral video capturing an Egyptian college professor's farewell speech to his female Saudi students sparked controversy on Twitter earlier this week.

The footage was captured by one of the teacher's students in a Saudi university. In it, he can be seen announcing that he will be moving back to Egypt.

He is also heard expressing his love for his students, adding that he was happy to teach them over the past few months. The students are then seen applauding him.

While many were moved by the video and found it endearing, others criticized it, deeming the educator's speech inappropriate.

The farewell speech got mixed reactions on Saudi Twitter

Some felt it was inappropriate...

"If this professor was Saudi and said the same things about his students, he would have been attacked. People would have even launched a hashtag accusing him of harassing his students."

"Shameless behavior"

Others couldn't disagree more though

"It's clear from the way they reacted to his words that he was teaching them with all his heart and considered them his daughters."

"Some people are just sick"

"This is just too simple and shouldn't be turned into a case that needs to be investigated"

"A university professor whose hair is grey is bidding farewell to his students in a very appropriate manner. Those accusing him of harassing them is mentally ill and needs to get treatment. I have no comment to those who are debating whether people of other nationalities would do this."

Not everyone misinterpreted the footage though

"This clip is full of emotions, may God grant this professor happiness."

Others loved it...

"He's amazing."

"I teared up even though I have nothing to do with this"

"I need teachers like him in my life"

Some reacted to the entire thing with humor

"I tried to believe him but couldn't."

And tongue-in-cheek sarcasm

"This is what he truly wanted to say."
