Every time polygamy comes up on social media, it sparks heated debates among people.

This is due to the fact that the topic is still considered controversial in countries across the Arab world, with some deeming it unconditionally permissible in Islam and others negating that.

Things weren't so different earlier this week when a video of a Kuwaiti woman savagely criticizing men who choose to marry more than one woman at once made the rounds online.

The woman's video circulated on WhatsApp in addition to other messaging apps and has since been posted on Twitter. It caused quite the stir on the platform, leading many to argue over the matter yet again.

It all started when the woman's video started circulating online...

In the footage, the woman attacks the idea behind polygamous marriages, saying:

"When prophet Adam felt lonely, God didn't create ten friends for him, he gave him one woman, just one, yes one. One woman, you womanizers."

The woman kept on going and while her argument hit a sour note with many who hit back at the way she tried to make her point, others stood by her and felt her words represented them.

Then a heated debate ensued on Twitter

"Regardless of women's jealousy, this is our sharia. Who are you to object to God's rules!!!"

Some hit back with confusing arguments...

"The Qur'an features no contradictions, the meaning behind the verse which states that a man will never be able to treat all his wives equally refers to being equal in loving them. Also, if you don't condone polygamy, leave Islam and take up Christianity, it bans polygamy."

A few men responded with things like this...

Many were having none of that though

"God Almighty says: 'You will never be able to be equal between wives, even if you should strive to do so.' That basically clears things up, being equal between wives is impossible to achieve and therefore polygamy is frowned upon in our religion, just as much as divorce."

Many shared this point of view

"For those who say our religion allows a man to be married to four women all at the same time, read the conditions of polygamy which are clear in Islam. Don't tailor our sharia to your benefit, don't distort what God has permitted."

What the Quran clearly states

In Islam, polygamy is only permissible within a tight frame of conditions.

The Quran clearly states that a man can only marry more than one woman if he treats her and all his other wives equally.

"But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one," Surat An-Nisaa states.

The surah then decrees: "You will never be able to be equal between wives, even if you should strive to do so."

This makes Islam-approved polygamy near impossible to attain, even when conditions for it apply.

"She's completely right"
