VIDEO: Fist fight erupts at Lebanese wedding and 'dabke' is to blame

Rivalry between in-laws escalated from petty tensions to a full-fledged fist fight during one Lebanese wedding on Monday. In a tragic turn of events, punches were thrown, chairs were tossed, and screams and swearwords took the place of music and ululation. 

The reason? Dabke, apparently.

This week, a video capturing wedding guests in a heated fight began circulating on social media. According to local media, the wedding took place in the Layali Akkar-Harar venue in Akkar, the northernmost governorate in the country. The video shows guests brawling and throwing chairs at each other, with others screaming in panic.

The fight reportedly erupted after the family of the groom and that of the bride began arguing over who takes the lead in dabke, the traditional Levantine folk dance. The situation quickly took a violent turn, leading guests to be injured and the venue to be damaged, according to RT.

Whether or not the couple followed through with the union remains unclear.

This wouldn't be the first incident of its kind in the country. Back in July, a fight broke out over the lyrics of a folk song performed at a wedding in Baalbek. The argument turned into a tragic bloodbath after a man opened fire at the wedding's singer, which resulted in three dead and four injured.
