Iranian-Saudi A cappella artist Alaa Wardi is no stranger to sending online viewers down memory lane. A few years back, the artist epically showcased the "Evolution of Arabic Music" in a video that has amassed over 20 million views since. This month, Wardi gave the Arab world a little more than just an artistic timeline of songs. Embracing A cappella in full force, the artist collaborated with Jordanian singer Haifa Kamal to honor the legendary Lebanese singer Fairouz.
Released on Aug. 22, the Fairouz Medley (aka Fairouziyat) is a compilation of 12 of the Lebanese legend's most popular songs. These include Bent El Shalabiya, Tiri Ya Tiyara, Sa'aloony El Nas, Zorooney Kil Sana Mara, and Baadak Ala Baly to name a few.
The artsy video has since amassed nearly half a million views on YouTube. People are taken aback by the two artists' creativity in executing such a video. Many haven't heard Kamal's voice up until now. To say they've been missing out is an understatement.
"I just can't believe the amount of creativity, beauty, and imagination existing in this masterpiece! AMAZING WORK ! The colors and the images are making me happy," one YouTube user wrote in the comments section.
