Tunisian goalkeeper Mouez Hassen flaunted his team spirit during recent friendly World Cup matches, complaining of an "injury" so that his teammates could break their Ramadan fast.

During the second half of two games - Tunisia vs. Portugal and Tunisia vs. Turkey - Hassen's apparent injury coincided with sunset, according to BuzzFeed News.

During the latter match, the goalkeeper's injury led to a break in the midst of the game, which gave Tunisian players the opportunity to drink water and eat dates on the sidelines.

In a reply tweet to a BBC news report regarding the injury, Hassen replied with a wink emoji in response to his "injuries".

In an interview with the BBC, Tunisia's national coach Nabil Maaloul confirmed that the pause mid-game was intentional.

"That is indeed my strategy. I prepared it because we have many players who are fasting," Maaloul said.

"It didn't go very well in the first game because Mouez didn't quite understand when I told him to go down to allow the players, as well as the staff, to break their fast," he added.

The North African country is set to play against Spain on June 9. Tunisia's first World Cup game - against England - is scheduled to take place on June 18.
