The Saudi Twitter community has been working itself up into a frenzy over a viral video depicting a woman beating up a man at a restaurant in the city of Jeddah.

The footage, which was captured by the restaurant's surveillance camera, has been making the rounds online, with the hashtag #فتاه_تضرب_شاب_بجده (Girl hits guy in Jeddah) trending on social media in the kingdom.

The incident has drawn mixed reactions online, but the reasons behind the woman's actions remain unclear.

According to the timestamp on the video, the incident took place earlier this month. In the video, the woman appears to throw an object - which people assume is a cell phone - at the man after he tells her something.

She is then seen jumping in the air and kicking him twice, after which she attempts to punch him. In response, the man tries to resist her attempts and hits back at her.

While the video has been widely shared online, the reasons behind the incident are yet to be revealed. Some social media users have suggested the woman might have been harassed by the man.

Saudis have had a lot to say about the video, with many people praising the woman for her courage. Meanwhile, others have chastised her for attacking the man and referred to her acts as "unfeminine".

Here are some of their comments:

Many thought the woman deserves a standing ovation

"Thug life"

Video game references were made

She demonstrated how to "fight like a girl"

The Arab Bruce Lee?

"Girl hits guy Bruce Lee-style at a restaurant in Jeddah. I advise you not to make judgments before knowing the reasons."

People are noting they shouldn't make judgments before knowing the full story

It's safe to say the "Men's Team" is rather worried

"Guys, our team is experiencing its worst phases. The women's team has become strong. They are now allowed to drive and attend sports games, and we were alright with that. But now that it has reached hitting us in public, it's time to reassess the situation and change our plans."

This user couldn't help but resort to sarcasm

"A man who leaves his house for an unnecessary reason subjects himself to harm he can do without. This would not have happened had he stayed at home or gone out with a guardian."

Women are fed up with people's judgments

"You criticize a woman if she remains silent about harassment and claim that she likes it. Meanwhile, if she stands up to him, you ask, 'Where is her femininity?'. What do you want from us?"

In a nutshell:

"When a man hits a woman: Don't rush in making judgments. She definitely provoked him. There is no way he hit her for no reason.

When a woman hits a man: She's rude. Her parents raised her like street people."
