If you follow sports writer Dave O’Connell, you've probably noticed he has a special place in his heart for Liverpool Football Club.

On top of that, it seems as though he's extremely inspired by legendary Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah ... going so far as to say he wants to become Egyptian just because of him.

On Wednesday, O'Connell shared a tweet in which he wrote:

"I'm applying for Egyptian citizenship. Salah makes me wanna be an Egyptian."

The tweet soon began making the rounds online, amassing over 1,000 re-tweets at the time of writing.

Of course, people on the internet couldn't handle it. Some nodded in agreement with the writer, others warned that he should "be careful what you wish for."

"Sir, take my nationality and give me yours"

A number of nationality "swap deals" were put on the table

Others nodded in agreement with O'Connell

Legit questions were raised

Points were sent across

A few warnings were issued

"I know Salah is great but are you out of your mind?"

Conspiracy theorists think there's an ulterior motive
