Two days before the United States presidential election, former U.S. president Bill Clinton was rallying for Hillary Clinton's bid for the oval office in Lansing, Michigan. He then decided to pay a surprise visit to Dearborn, Michigan – one of the most Arab cities in America.
His stops? Both food establishments. He visited Greenland Supermarket and the town's most famous restaurant, Al Ameer Restaurant, where he received a tour of Arab culinary specialties, specifically, Kussa (aka Zuchinni). Both of the businesses are in East Dearborn.
The Clintons must really believe in food as an avenue to Arab minds, hearts and, of course, votes.
Dearborn is home to the largest concentration of Arabs in the country, with more than 30 percent of its residents hailing from the region.
Arab-Americans are expected to vote for Hillary Clinton by a 60 percent majority, according to a poll commissioned by the Arab American Institute. Polls also showed that Arab-American support for the Democratic party draws, in large part, from repulsion to Republican nominee Donald Trump's anti-Muslim rhetoric.
Crowds gathered to take pictures with the president who served from 1992 to 2000, and Arab-American social media was, as expected, all over the story.
Presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, have planned to make a stop in Michigan during the last hours of the upcoming elections.
The latest polling shows Clinton in the lead by just 4 points in the state, although the country was first considered to be a sure bet for Clinton.
