Growing up in Saudi Arabia is not one of those things you can let go of. Saudi Arabia, as we all know too well, has a unique set of laws, to put it mildly. Still, as strange as the experience might feel, when you leave it, you start to miss it.

1. Going shopping after Iftar

Clarification: During the day, the country closes down its malls and stores since everyone is fasting. After Iftar, stores open until 1 a.m.

2. Jarir Bookstore

There's nothing like dragging your dad to Jarir bookstore to buy the most overpriced pens, copybooks, laptops and Books. It was worth it because being in Jarir alone made you feel incredibly smart.

3. Having days off when a sandstorm hits the country (or when it rains)

Remember the 2008 standstorm that made us all go back home early? Best day in recorded history.

4. Akaria Mall

This was THE place to be before the Akaria turned into offices when the luxurious Kingdom Center and Al-Faisaliah Mall were built. If there is one thing that is ingrained in your mind, it's this place.

5. Relishing long Eid breaks because it was the only time of year when you were allowed to have a vacation
