Trump with King Salman
Trump receiving a gold medal from King Salman

U.S. President Donald Trump blasted his political opponent Hillary Clinton during the election because her family's organization accepted money from Saudi Arabia, but that didn't stop him from accepting lavish gifts from the kingdom during his May visit.

"It's a criminal enterprise. Saudi Arabia giving $25 million," Trump said, attacking Clinton during a televised debate last year.

"So these are people that push gays off buildings. These are people that kill women and treat women horribly. And yet you take their money. So I'd like to ask you right now why don't you give back the money that you have taken from certain countries that treat certain groups of people so horribly? Why don't you give back the money?" he asked Clinton.

Of course, Trump's characterization of Saudi Arabia left a lot to be desired. And all that zealous criticism appeared to have melted entirely away by May when the new president happily accepted opulent gifts presented by King Salman.

The White House accepted at least 83 gifts from the Saudis during the official state visit. The information and details of the gifts were released this week by The Daily Beast, which filed a Freedom of Information Act request to the U.S. State Department.

Among other things, Trump received a large artwork featuring himself, tiger and cheetah fur robes, a dagger made of pure silver, multiple swords, a large canvas artwork depicting Saudi women and a lot of fancy traditional Khaleeji clothing.
