The Moroccan city of Marrakech has become pretty popular among celebrity tourists in the past few years. The latest public figures to descend on the city are former U.S. President Bill Clinton and his wife, former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

The couple arrived in the country a few days ago to celebrate Moroccan-American billionaire Marc Lasry's 60th birthday along with 300 other guests.

This isn't the first time the couple attended a celebratory event hosted by Lasry. In 2017, they both attend the wedding of the mogul's daughter in New York City. At the time, Hillary Clinton made headlines for wearing a Caftan (traditional Moroccan floor-length garment) to the event.

The Clintons have been making the most of Marrakech

While in the city, the duo certainly took time out to enjoy local activities.

On Friday, the Clintons were spotted taking a stroll through the city's Jemaa El-Fna square. While walking through its alleyways, Bill Clinton posed for pictures with a snake and did some shopping at traditional stores in a local souk.

And its cuisine

On Monday, the couple got a taste of the nation's cuisine. While visiting a traditional weaving cooperative, they were served a traditional Moroccan breakfast made of "msemen" (Moroccan pancakes), black olives, and the country's iconic mint tea.

Marrakech keeps proving it's a celebrity magnet

The touristic city has long been a favorite among international celebrities who choose it as a setting for celebrations and relaxing vacations.

Earlier this year, Hollywood stars Jessica Alba, Lupita Nyong'o, and Shailene Woodley visited the city on the backdrop of Dior's 2020 fashion show at Marrakech's El Badi Palace.

In April, English actor Idris Elba tied the knot in Marrakech with Sabrina Dhowre, an American model, beauty queen, and actress. The duo celebrated their union with three-day festivities in the holiday destination's luxurious Ksar Char-Bagh hotel.

Weddings aren't the only celeb bashes being held in the city, though. Last year, American singer Madonna marked her 60th birthday in Marrakech. Documenting her journey via Instagram posts, the star was seen exploring the city, visiting its souks and alleys, and celebrating "Berber culture."

The city has been named a "top destination" numerous times

The beautiful city never fails to appear in lists of top destinations, maintaining its positive reputation among tourists year after year.

TripAdvisor ranked Marrakech ninth in its "Top 25 Travelers' Choice Destinations in the World" in 2019. Last year, the travelers' guide and its many followers ranked the city eighth in the "Top 10 Travelers' Choice Destinations – World." A few years back, in 2015, Marrakech was actually named the top destination in the world in the same list by TripAdvisor.

Though the city is the most popular among tourists visiting Morocco, other places in the country have also been getting more attention
