Taoufik Makhloufi is the only Algerian to make it to the Rio Olympic podium, and he did it twice.

The runner competed in the 800 and 1,500-meter races at Rio 2016 and won silver in both, making him the only Arab at the games to bring home two medals.

But Makhloufi had no thank you's for his country's sporting officials. “I dedicate these medals to every Algerian, every Muslim, and every Arab, except those responsible for sports in Algeria,” he told beIN.

For sporting officials, he had only scathing critique, accusing them of crushing "the hopes of the Algerian people," and "exploiting their power to the detriment of athletes."

Makhloufi claims that he has had to finance his own training despite having been an Olympian for four years.

Makhloufi said the official sports committee was forcing athletes to settle for " crumb s."

"It seems like they're not interested in improving Algerian sports," he added.

"I've been an Olympic champion for the past four years and I've suffered with them (the officials). How bad do you think average athletes have it?" he told France24.

So who is Taoufik Makhloufi?

Makhloufi is Algeria's only gold Olympic medalist since 2000 and only Olympic medalist since 2008.

At his first Olympic Games in London 2012, he won gold in the 1,500-meter race.

He headed to Rio in hopes of defending the 1,500-meter title, but fell 11 milliseconds short, claiming silver. He then added an 800-meter medal to his tally after breaking his own record.

And there's more to Makhloufi's sportsmanship than his athletic ability.

He did without one of his silver medals, handing it to his teammate Larbi Bourrada, who placed fifth in the men's decathlon. And what's a medal without a medal ceremony?

Makhloufi recreated Olympic glory...on his very own veranda. With the Algerian flag raised and the national anthem on full blast, a shirtless Makhloufi ceremoniously gives Bourrada his second medal. The crowd goes wild.
