In 2014, the Facebook group " I am a Syrian in Lebanon " launched to help answer the questions of refugees who have come to Lebanon after fleeing their war-torn country.

Since its launch, the group has grown to around 30,000 members.

The members seek tips on enrolling in school, reporting abuse and more according to the UNHCR.

Oum Nidal, the group's founder and a Syrian refugee who left Homs in 2012, works 16-hour shifts to help all those reaching out via her smartphone. She receives more than 200 messages daily.

“My objective is to reach those in need of information or support,” Oum Nidal said in an interview at the office of Caritas, according to UNHCR .

“I want to make sure the community remains strong and united.”

One of the most frequent question asked on the group is about residency permits, resettlement, food, cash assistance, health and education.

“The Facebook page has been a real help to me and my family,” said Nour, a Syrian refugee living in Lebanon who turned to the group after her son was assaulted.

“The information provided… is accurate and correct,” she added.

As millions of Syrians flee their homes due to the ongoing Syrian crisis, many have been left in an unstable psychological state. With the number of mental health resources at a minimum, this Facebook group is taking advantage of the easy accessibility of social media to help enhance the quality of life for Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
