Bahno said the prize came as a surprise and hoped it will encourage Syrian-German cultural integration and coexistence. She also said she is looking to promote Syrian wine in the West.

Ninorta received lessons in wine making in Trier, where a National Wine Queen will be crowned among other 12 winners in September. Ninorta also mentioned that her favorite wine is that extracted from Riesling.

Bahno thanked Germany for being "hospitable, kind, and sympathetic" to refugees.
