Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid, the ruler of Dubai's son who died in September, was the top trending person in the United Arab Emirates this year, according to the search engine's 2015 Year in Search  list.

Sheikh Rashid's unexpected death at the age of 33 was a shock to the emirate, and people searching for information on his death beat out such international tragedies as the Nepal earthquake (No. 2), Paris shooting (No. 3) and Charlie Hebdo (No. 3), to be the most trending event in the UAE for the year.

Sheikh Rashid also led the trending people for the UAE for the year.

In other categories, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank was the most trending company, lead by online retailer Souq.com .

"Fast and Furious 7" was the top trending movie – unsurprising since it was partially filmed in Abu Dhabi and featured the Arab world's first luxury sports car, W Motor's Lykan Hypersport .

While the top five trends in all categories were in English, the top Arabic trend was No. 6 on the event list: the August death of Mirna Al-Mohandes . Egyptian star Nour El Sherif, who also died in August, was the seventh most search event and 10th most searched person for 2015, both in Arabic.

Globally, "Paris under attack" dwarfed almost every other topic on the search engine, with more than 897 million searches after the November 14 attacks in the French capital that left 130 people dead.
