Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has launched this year's Ramadan campaign to give away 5 million books to children in refugee camps and schools in need around the Muslim world, as part of the educational campaign Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives.
"It represents the UAE’s transition from feeding the hungry and quenching thirst, to nurturing the mind and the soul during the holy month of Ramadan," the campaign said on its website .
"Our campaign will be titled "Reading Nation" and its goal is to provide # 5MillionBooks for needy students in the refugee camps in and around the Muslim world."
The campaign aims to construct and equipt 2,000 libraries in underprivileged schools around the world with 2 million books, distribute 2 million books to children in refugee camps, as well as support educational charity programs with 1 million textbooks.
There are several ways institutions and individuals can make donations to the #5millionbooks campaign. Donations could be done through institutional packages, online donations and individual donations.
"Combating ignorance is the fastest route to combating poverty,"Sheikh Mohammed says on the website .
