Now that we've entered the last 10 days of Ramadan, the Muslim world is focused on the upcoming Eid al-Fitr, the holiday that announces the breaking of the month of fasting. It is a coveted three-day celebration of Ramadan, and is usually honoured by large family gatherings around big feasts where Muslims show off their new clothes and anticipate the eidiyeh, which is a monetary gift children collect from parents and extended family.
The hashtag #Something_Essential_In_Eid trended at No. 1 in Saudi Arabia Friday, with users sharing their thoughts of what makes their Eid so special:
"In the morning, the smell of Oud, perfume, the sound of prayer from the Mosque, and Eid clothes, coffee, and chocolate, which overcharges [us with] caffeine and happiness."
"There's nothing like it in the world for sure: maamoul stuffed with dates, pistachios, and walnuts."
"The innocent smile on children's faces is something very beautiful [to see]..."
"The money if it came from your parents and relatives"
"The family gathering"
