In June 2017, Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) was appointed as Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince and heir apparent to the throne by his father, King Salman. Since then, he has already proven on multiple occasions that he is serious about reforming the kingdom.

Late last week, the 32-year-old royal was tasked with leading an anti-corruption campaign that saw the arrests of 11 princes, 4 current ministers, several businessmen, and a number of former government ministers.

According to Gulf News, those detained reportedly include Chairman of Kingdom Holding Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, Commander of the Saudi Navy Abdullah al-Sultan, as well as the owner of TV network MBC, Alwaleed al-Ibrahim.

Since the high-profile arrests, Saudi authorities have announced that they will be freezing the bank accounts of the detained suspects based on corruption charges, according to Al Arabiya.

"We grew apprehensive of corruption cases; anyone who is guilty will be punished," the Crown Prince told Al Arabiya. "No one is above the law whether it is a prince or a minister."

The move has drawn mixed international reactions, with some western media outlets suggesting it is "perceived to be more about consolidating power than purging corruption".

However, using the hashtag #محبو_محمد_بن_سلمان ("The supporters of Mohammed bin Salman"), many Saudi nationals have taken to social media to voice their full support for their Crown Prince.

The topic has also been trending on Twitter in the kingdom.

Here are some of their reactions to the recent news:

Many Saudis are optimistic about his efforts

"Totally proud..."

Some are calling MBS an "ambitious leader"

And many are thanking him for putting "Saudi people's interests as his priority"

As well as "cleansing the country"

"MBS did what many others have disregarded: The process of cleansing the country, which is a difficult task in a third world country."

Saudi pride is in full force

"Such a wonderful and amazing man"

This, regardless of media speculation

"The man who is making history"

"This is a nice hashtag promoting love for a leader who is uplifting the nation. I urge everyone to contribute to the hashtag and express their gratitude to the man making history."

"God protect him"

"MBS is a historical figure who deserves all the love, not only from his people but from the entire Arab and Islamic nation. God protect him and King Salman."

Even expats had their say...
