In a heroic rescue that went viral on Arab Twitter earlier this week, two Saudi policemen saved a man who was about to die after he lost his tracks in the desert, Akhbaar 24 news site reported.

The man was driving his car in the area when it got stuck in the sand. He then left the vehicle in an attempt to find help nearby but lost his way.

The two security men - now identified as Mohammad Al Waely and Makhbout Al Buraiki - coincidentally came across him while cruising in the area.

By the time he was found, the man had been alone in the desert for over a day and had walked around 12 kilometers in harsh weather conditions.

He was also severely dehydrated and almost unconscious.

Footage of the rescue is incredibly moving...

The man was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where he received urgent medical care. He miraculously survived the incident unscathed and was later sent home.

It has since gone viral online...

Tweeps were moved by the incident...

"My heart breaks for this man. Thank God he's safe now."

Others were left emotional...

"Oh my God! Thank God he's safe."

"Mashallah, such an incredible rescue"

"He was in such a difficult situation, thank God who sent him these people to save his life."

Many hailed the security men for the rescue...

"A huge thank you to Saudi security men."

"When a person saves a soul, it is as if they saved all humanity"
