Earlier this week, the governor of Saudi Arabia's Asir governorate, Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdel Aziz, ordered the arrest of three men who left a fake body in the middle of a highway located in Abha, Okaz newspaper reported.
The arrests came just hours after a video captured by the culprits circulated online on Sunday. In it, one of the men is heard saying he found the "dead body" laying in the area.
The footage sparked fear among Saudis on social media as it comes after several real bodies were found disposed of in a similar manner.
The fake footage went viral on Twitter
People were relieved that it turned out to be a prank
"So the clip was all fake... they left people terrified."
Many couldn't believe what the men had done
"They can't be serious with this."
"This is the time to try and be funny"
Some thought the trio deserved to be arrested
"Let pranks benefit them now."
The prank comes at a time when people are still nervous over similar news
The men's prank sparked anger in the kingdom especially because it comes at a time where many in the country are worried over news of an alleged serial killer who has been disposing of bodies on highways.
Just weeks ago, a dead body tied to a bed was spotted in the middle of a local highway located in Abha, Asir governorate.
Last week, two other bodies were found disposed of in a similar manner in both Abha and Jazan.
