One Saudi diver plans to smash a world record by spending one week submerged in open saltwater.
Mohammad Al Sumaili plans to move forward with the feat in July. The previous record holder, Cem Karabay of Turkey, only spent 72 hours (three days) underwater, according to Guinness World Records .
Sumaili has been training for the challenge and already spent a full day underwater on Jan. 1, according to Gulf News .
However, his training has been conducted in a swimming pool and the real test will take place at a depth of about 12 meters in the sea. He will consume a liquid diet during the ordeal and a team of medical experts will monitor his condition during the week spent under the waves. A special suit has also been developed to protect his body, although it's unclear how he plans to sleep.
If he manages to pull it off, it will leave the previous record holder in the dust ... Or, in the case, the waves?
So, good luck?
