Saudi authorities in the kingdom's Eastern Province announced the arrest of an expat woman who stole a man's car in Al Dammam last week, Sabq news site reported.

In a statement on the matter, the official spokesman for the police department, General Mohammad bin Fahed Al Duraihim, stated that "two suspects have been arrested in the case, an expat woman and man, both in their thirties".

He also added that both defendants confessed to the theft during interrogations and have since been transferred to public prosecution.

The entire incident had been caught on camera

The arrests in the case come just over a week after CCTV footage capturing the incident went viral online.

In it, a man could be seen leaving his car unattended to pick something up from a store. This is when the woman suddenly appears on screen, rushing towards the vehicle, getting in the driver seat, and driving away.

After it was uploaded on Twitter last week, the clip went completely viral, sparking quite the controversy.

Many have since reacted to news of the arrests

Some were relieved

"Thank God they were found and will not be held accountable."

Others felt the stolen car's owner was partly to blame in the incident

"This car's owner helped them steal it."

"Live a lot, see a lot"
