Despite the fact that alcohol consumption and ownership are strictly banned in Saudi Arabia, smugglers continue to find ways to get it into the kingdom.

Early on Monday, a smuggler was caught by Saudi authorities after he tried to drive through a checkpoint in Al-Kharj governorate, Okaz newspaper reported.

Authorities then chased his car and managed to stop him only to find the vehicle filled with 360 imported bottles of alcoholic beverages.

The man was then arrested by authorities who also confiscated the items and sent them over to the area's anti-drug authority.

Given that anyone caught selling or consuming alcohol in the kingdom faces strict legal action, the defendant will now be referred to trial.

The arrest sent Saudi Twitter into a meltdown...

In the hours after news of the arrest was first reported, it caused quite the stir on Saudi Twitter. While some reacted to the news with anger, others turned to sarcasm and humor in their responses.

Here's a little of what Saudis had to say:

Some were left shocked by the incident...

"Ya lateef"

"This man must be out of it"

People had so many questions...

"How did these bottles get into the country? How was he able to get them? Search for the people who let them in, this person is only a seller."

"How did he pass through our border?"

Many reacted to the news with humor...

And sarcasm...

"Hand these bottles out."

"You ruined their weekend"

Puzzling much?

"There are 20 boxes, each contains 20 bottles, so there must have been 400 bottles. They said they found 370, where are the 30 missing ones?"
